I guess that I have lived with the use of technology 40 hours a week for the last 16 years that I just assume it's what we do but I have never asked myself the questions that go along with it. Why do we do it, what impact does it have, why do we use what we use, is it a vehicle or a tool, can we do without it, what impact does it have, are we using it properly?
Impact: I feel that instructional technology is necessary in for the 21st century teaching and learning. It is integrated in everything we do, everywhere we go, everything we hear. We need to be sure that the students are learning with technology and not reliant on technology for learning. Using technology to enhance learning can be beneficial and effective. Techno-centric societies make us dependent on technology. I feel that we still need to show students that life can function without technology and that life isn't at a stand still if it isn't working. Teaching and facilitating with technology is essential. We need to show students the proper way to use technology to enhance critical thinking and using technology as a skill rather than a lifestyle. I fell we need to utilize technology to enhance our lives not run it. We need technology to run parallel to great thinkers and designers. We need to show that technology can be transparent without being crippling if it isn't working. We need to exemplify this through our use for our children from a young age. We need to instill creativity and critical thinking and problem solving with and without the technology.
Intent: I will set an example and show that technology and the 21st century teaching and learning is a benefit to our lifestyles rather than a need. I will gain a full understanding of the technology before implementing it. This will allow me to coach and show the way of the technology and how it can enhance the teaching and learning. I will ask questions and answer questions as well to use the technology to the best of it's ability to enhance a users experience.
